I didn’t set out to build a company. I set out to build a home.
But from the moment we bought our lot, we realized just how hard that would be. We sat on that land for 18 months — stalled by indecision, overwhelmed by complexity, and unsure of how to move forward. There was no clear roadmap, no system, no one place to organize our ideas and decisions. We spent over six months designing a floor plan that fit our vision and our budget. That was just the beginning.
We hacked together a way to manage it all: Google Drive folders for documents, spreadsheets for tracking allowances and receipts, Pinterest boards for interior inspiration, and text threads with our contractor that we constantly had to scroll back through. We created checklists, dashboards, reminders — anything to bring some order to the chaos. It was messy. It worked but barely.
And somewhere along the way, it hit me:
This wasn’t just our story. This was everyone’s story.
Homeowners building for the first time are thrown into a process full of decisions with no instruction manual. Builders are expected to juggle logistics, updates, and client expectations without modern tools. Lenders are left out of the loop until something goes wrong. Everyone is working hard — and yet, the experience feels fragmented and stressful for all.
That’s when I decided to build BuildNest.
Because building a home shouldn’t feel like walking through a minefield. It should feel exciting, empowering, and worth the effort. But for most people, it’s anything but. I’ve lived it — and I knew we could do better. Building a home shouldn’t feel like a blind leap or a bad haircut. It should feel like building something you understand, believe in, and are proud to call yours.
Before BuildNest, I spent over a decade helping companies grow and mentoring startup founders around the world. I’ve always worked at the intersection of technology, education, and impact. But this? This one’s personal.
